Pruning trees is essential in Colorado as we are sure to have high winter winds and heavy snowfalls that put our tree branches to the test. The loss of mature trees due to winter storms has a lasting effect on our landscapes, leaving gaping holes where our woody companions once stood.

* Prepare your tree for that early snow. Reduce damage and improve health and structure.

* Fall color: Well watered trees will have better fall color and be better prepared for a dry winter.

* If we have another dry winter, be sure to thoroughly water trees every 4 to 5 weeks.

* Soak critical root zones 10 to 12 inches deep when conditions are mild and dry.


* A fall Fertilization helps root development and a better spring green up.

* Before winterizing your sprinkler system, run it through all zones 2-3 times to get a deep watering.

* If you have not aerated, fall is a great time to help your lawn develop a deeper root system for a healthier lawn next season.


* Plant your spring blooming bulbs now for that splash of spring color.
* Cover up your large pots with plastic to prevent from cracking.
