AURORA, Colo. -- A man was seriously injured after the car he was driving crashed into a power pole in Aurora Monday.
Police say a 1987 Chevrolet Camaro hit a power pole near E. 2nd Ave. and Potomac St. at about 6 a.m.
The Aurora Police Department originally reported the drive had been killed, but it later corrected that information.
“Information was provided this morning that a male driver died as a result of a single vehicle collision in Aurora. That was incorrectly reported," says Aurora Police spokesman Lt. Chuck DeShazer. "The driver was injured in the collision and while those injuries are significant, it is now being reported he will survive those injuries.”
Investigators say the car was going northbound on Potomac when it drifted to the right side of the road and hit a pile of snow and ice. It went airborne and then hit the pole head-on.
“Officers believe the driver was not wearing a seatbelt and are investigating the possibility of alcohol being involved in the collision,” DeShazer says.
Police have not released the man’s name yet.
