BOULDER, Colo. -- The man accused of shooting and killing a University of New Hampshire football player as he walked home with a friend on University Hill in March 2011was convicted of murder in the first degree in Boulder County Friday.
Kevin McGregor was sentenced immediately to life in prison without the possibility of parole. He received an additional eight years in prison for a related robbery charge.
"I have stared at him (and) have looked at him ... he knows I was single handedly the person who could do this," said Elizabeth Roach, who was the only witness to Walker's murder. "The fact that he can't get out and do anything to me is very comforting."
According to prosecutors, McGregor tried to rob Todd Walker and Elizabeth Roach as the pair walked home from a party on the Hill on March 18.
According to police, McGregor pointed a gun at Roach and Walker intervened. At that point, McGregor shot Walker.
