DENVER -- State Representative Laura Bradford, a Republican from Mesa County, is considering dropping her affiliation with the GOP.

She’s upset that legislators are continuing an ethics review committee investigation even though Denver Police now say she never tried to invoke legislative immunity during a DUI traffic stop last week.

Police say a little known section of the Colorado Constitution required them to drop their DUI investigation, after they pulled Bradford over Wednesday night near Colfax and Downing.

Initially, Police claimed Bradford is the one who brought up the immunity law, but now say one of their sergeants did, and then misled the Department about what had happened.

But House Speaker Frank McNulty says the ethics review has to continue and is a recognition of the seriousness of the allegations that have been put into play.

Police say they found a firearm in Bradford’s car and she could face misdemeanor firearms charges because she had been drinking.

Republicans hold just a one seat majority in the House, so if Bradford leaves the GOP that could result in a shift of power at the State Capitol.

Democrats control the State Senate and the Governor is a Democrat.

Bradford indicated she will make a decision regarding her political future over the weekend.
